How Our Smiles Change With Age

Like many other changes we experience with time, your smile will also change as you get older! It’s important to know the difference between the normal changes we see with age, and abnormalities you need to keep a lookout for! At Taunton Orthodontics, we believe knowledge is key to owning your oral health! Let’s discuss what you can expect from your smile as the years pass, and what you can do to help it age gracefully.

Be On The Lookout!

From years of use, it’s normal for your teeth to experience a small amount of wear and tear. Small surface level scratches and microchipping is a part of aging and growing older. Another common symptom patients face is their teeth becoming progressively more yellow! As you age, the white enamel on your teeth will become worn. As the calcified tissue underneath called “dentin” becomes more exposed, it will start to make your teeth appear more yellow. Don’t be alarmed, as this is a normal part of aging!

Another common problem we face as we age is shifting teeth! As we age there is a tendency for a slight reduction in the space available to house our teeth and some shifting or crowding can be the result. Luckily, at Taunton Orthodontics, we offer a variety of treatments that can correct this issue!

What Can We Do To Help?

There are many treatments we can offer our adult patients to help your smile stay beautiful and youthful. Ceramic braces are one option with a sleeker design to their metal predecessor, and is a great treatment option for shifting teeth! This treatment can correct almost any orthodontic issue and can give you the smile you dream of! Another treatment we offer that is becoming more and more popular with our adult patients is Invisalign! These sleek clear aligners will transform your smile while being almost completely unnoticeable.

Tell us what your smile goals are! If you have noticed any changes as you’ve aged, address these concerns to our team so we can make an action plan. All patients receive a customized treatment plan to help them achieve the smile they have always wanted!
