01 Jul The Importance of Early Orthodontic Treatment in Young Children
Many people feel that it isn’t necessary to take young children to the orthodontist for an initial screening. The common misunderstanding is that it is best to wait until all the adult teeth come in to visit the orthodontist for an initial assessment. However, here at Taunton Orthodontics in Whitby, we recommend that all children have their first complimentary orthodontic screening at age 7.
Since the jaw is still developing at this age and teeth are still erupting, many problems such as impacted teeth, growth issues, excessive tooth wear, and severe crowding can be addressed more predictably or prevented all together.
This early intervention is referred to as interceptive orthodontics and is something we focus on. If during these initial checkups, it is found that your child needs some specialized treatment, we implement it in a timely fashion. It simplifies future treatment and can reduce the cost of it too!
